I’m Japanese.
I DON’T go to these places in Shinjuku.
First, don’t go to expensive restaurants!
I go to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government cafeteria.
It’s on the 32nd floor,
in the same building as the observatory.
Ramen is around ¥600 ($4),
and set meals are around ¥800 ($5).
It’s super affordable,
and you can enjoy an amazing view too!
Second, don’t shop at expensive stores.
I go to the flea market at Hanazono Shrine.
You can find lots of interesting things,
like antiques, kimono, and more!
Third, don’t go to expensive izakayas.
Go to Namae no Nai Sushi-ya.
You can get sushi for just ¥10 ($0.06)!
